Elevate Your Peer Mentor Program: Infuse Transformative Coaching Strategies into Your Program to Increase Impact (webinar)

February 22nd, 2023 | 2:00 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. EST | $395

As many students struggle with deeper internal as well as external dilemmas – our peer mentor programs have potentials that we have not yet fully realized or mobilized. Discover how to take peer-to-peer programs to the next level to make even more meaningful impacts on students and student culture.

Why Is This Topic Critical?

Today’s college students often navigate a plethora of internal and external challenges in profound isolation. Peer-to-peer education can address the vital challenge of engaging those students who encounter confusion, stress and loneliness.

An ample body of research – going back many years – conclusively demonstrates that peers listen to and emulate each other--thus the proliferation of peer-to-peer education and mentoring programs. Yet, too many programs do not draw out the possibilities for mobilizing peers to provide holistic, deep, high-impact leadership and mentoring.

The answer is in training peers to facilitate – early and often - three simple but critical dimensions of student development – awareness, action and alliances. Peers trained to impact the deeper needs of today’s students can help those students better navigate challenges, optimize their potentials, and make the most of their college journeys.

Who Should Attend?

This program is ideal for college professionals looking to optimize the potential of campus peer-to-peer programs, including:

  • Academic Deans, Provosts and Vice Presidents who oversee Student Success, Student Affairs and Academic Affairs

  • Directors of First Year, Transfer Student Experience Summer Bridge

  • TRIO, Student Support Services

  • Any college professional developing or coordinating a college peer mentor program

Overview

How can your peer mentor, educator or leadership programs have not only a “positive” but potentially “transformational” impact in higher education? In this webinar, you will gain the strategies and tools to train peer mentors, educators and leaders in transformative skills and thinking they can then model for and integrate into their work with other students.

In this webinar, we will discuss practical strategies – and share practical tools– to help peer educators enhance their own self-insights, clarify their purpose, take action on their goals, and cultivate and sustain supportive relationships and networks in their own lives. We will then discuss how peer leaders can turn key these tools to impact fellow peers. We will conclude by discussing organizational strategies that programs can employ to help peer educators continually develop capacities, and situate them in positions of influence across campus thus maximizing their efficacy and impacts.

Agenda

In this informative and interactive webinar, you will:

  • Probe the distinction between transactional and transformative peer to peer leadership, mentoring and education.

  • Learn about a unique “awareness, action and alliances” model for “making the most of college”.
